Are you frequently reusing chord progressions? Struggling to find harmonious chord combinations? Feeling confident with C and G Major but lost when it comes to chords in B flat minor or F sharp Mixolydian?

This application aims to address these challenges by providing a comprehensive solution. It compiles a collection of chords for each mode that typically complement each other well. By selecting a note and mode, the app will generate a random chord progression that is harmonically pleasing. Should the result not meet your expectations, you can easily generate a new sequence until you find one that resonates with you.

The app offers three 8-chord sequences: one ending on any chord, another with a V-I resolution, and a third with a IV-I cadence. Additionally, iPad users can access a fourth sequence ending with a half cadence I-V. You have the flexibility to choose individual sequences or combine them as per your creative preferences.

Upon discovering a sequence you like, it can be saved for future reference. The option to display sequences on screen and audition them using a piano sound is available. Moreover, you can export sequences to Music XML format, which proves beneficial when working with tools like Logic Pro.

A “surprise me” feature selects a random scale to inspire new ideas and prevent creative stagnation.

The base version of the app includes essential scales/modes such as Ionian (Major), Aeolian (Minor), Harmonic Minor, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, and Locrian. For expanded functionality, two upgrade options are offered via in-app purchases, unlocking over 800 additional scales and modes.

This tool serves as an invaluable resource for serious composers seeking fresh compositions that transcend conventional patterns. While it does not compose songs entirely, it ignites new concepts unexplored before. For Logic users, the Music XML export feature significantly accelerates the composition process, particularly when deadlines are tight, such as in TV synchronization.
